The majority of our practice focuses on preventing or minimizing post-death administration, by attempting to avoid probate or trust administration. However, we also frequently assist with matters arising during post-death estate administration.

We guide families through the often complex and emotionally challenging process that follows a loved one’s passing. Our comprehensive services include reviewing estate documents, advising personal representatives (executors) and trustees on their fiduciary responsibilities, assisting fiduciaries in identifying and gathering estate or trust assets, and addressing outstanding debts. We also handle notifying qualified beneficiaries of their interests, allocating and dividing assets, and distributing trust property accordingly.

Throughout this process, we provide counsel on the income and estate tax implications related to death and ongoing trust administration. Perhaps most critically, while we don’t take litigation matters directly, we frequently help mediate disputes that may arise among family members due to the intersection of financial matters, family dynamics, and the imperative to honor the decedent’s wishes.
